Operating schedule
a) General - all four licensing objectives (b,c,d,e) (please read guidance note 9)
Alcohol within the store will be tightly controlled, in order to limit any chance of underage contact and also to reduce the possibility of theft. All alcohol will only be available from behind the counter. All staff members will be thoroughly trained in the licensing objectives. Check 21 system will operate in relation to all alcohol sales, also the till will ask for confirmation that this person is “Age OK” with every alcohol item scanned through. No ID No Sale. Any full time staff will be expected to achieve an accredited licensing qualification within 6 months of the start of their employment.
b) The prevention of crime and disorder
24 hour CCTV operated within and outside the store.
This is held for a period of 28 days during which time it can be easily downloaded for use by the company or any relevant authority. This can also be viewed remotely and should it be felt that assistance may be required the staff can easily make contact, and receive help.
c) Public safety
Should any member of staff feel that public safety is being affected, they have the right and the ability to close the store immediately.
d) The prevention of public nuisance
People will be discouraged from “hanging about” on or near the premises.
We have had no experience of problems with pub or club users, but should this become a problem - especially in the summer, we will consider restricting the opening hours of the store.
e) The protection of children from harm
We actively encourage children into the store with a good range of children’s sweets and because of this staff are trained to monitor and refuse sales of age restricted items if they have reason to believe the product is for someone other than the purchaser.
Staff are thoroughly schooled in the check 21 system and are fully aware that they are personally responsible for every sale they make, and that they are also being recorded on CCTV and they will face prosecution should they break the law. Unless they are 100% sure they must not sell that age restricted item.
